The Artist and the Engineer--the problem with pens

"Are you drawing all over my harmonics chart?"
"Its your fault! You left a pen next to it!"

The other day, Rich came home with this really cool chart he'd made which, he told me, "explains how music works" or something like that. It was a really cool chart. Which he left on the table. So it isn't MY fault if some doodles showed up on it, right?

What really happened is I realized that I was doodling on his awesome chart (in pen...) and I stopped. And he didn't get upset. But I still felt bad. But... it was paper, and there was a pen, and I'm me... things happen.

By the way, this little comic is completely unedited except for cropping. I drew it in pencil, used a fine tip black marker to draw over it, scanned it, cropped it, uploaded it. I'm going to be completely honest--If these are ever going to go anywhere but my sketchbook, I really have to set the bar low. That list of steps is already getting a bit longer than I'd like, but there isn't really anything to cut. So sometimes, the characters won't look the same from panel to panel. Sometimes, my handwriting is hard to read. Sometimes, I just can't draw. But I've found that, one, making these is something I enjoy, and two, they're something I like to share. But sharing them and even creating them will never happen if I decide that they must be perfect. I've decided to learn as I go--as I create and share and get feedback, maybe I'll get better, and maybe even feel better about committing more time to it.

Ha! I LOVE these comics. I have no trouble reading them and I think the comic people look just like you and Richard. Also, it's super great that Richard does a face-palm in both of the comics so far. I can see both of your personalities really well in them. Miss you guys :)

Could it be that you were illustrating the harmonics chart? You always did good to illustrate your vocabulary list and spelling test when you were little :- I think the imperfections in the comic are wonderful. It looks authentic. And without seeing a photograph of you, I can see by the accuracy in your comic drawing that your hair is starting to grow out. :-)

Haha, yes, I had noticed that he facepalms in both of them so far. We need to find something else for him to do ;-)

My hair IS getting longer, and I can't decide whether to let it grow or cut it off again. But not deciding is kind of making my decision for me... but then again, I can always cut it off... hmm.
