the Draw what you See challenge
Its a challenge to help you practice representational drawing. Want to take the challenge? Its simple.
1. Decide on the number of drawings you will complete.
2. Decide the time frame you will complete them in
3. Do your drawings directly from reference--either from life, or photos (preferably your own.)
4. If you want--Post it to social media for accountability! use the hashtag #drawwhatyouseechallenge or #dwysc
No specific medium, subject matter, size, etc. is specified, so do what you want! Digital or traditional, drawing or painting, whatever works for you!
My goal is to complete 50 drawings from observation before the end of September 2018. That might not seem like much, but being the primary caregiver of two kids makes that an ambitious goal!
Most of my drawings will be of my kids, but if you want me to consider your photo to be drawn, use the hashtag #drawthissarahluann
While illustration is what I love most to do, drawing from observation is an important foundational skill that I want to practice. When I first started this challenge I was a bit worried that it would take me away from the more fantastical, imaginative work I most enjoy, but I've found the inverse to be true--I'm feeling more energized and inspired than before, and I'm enjoying it much more than I thought I would as well.
To find out more about the challenge, see my blog post about it here: http://www.sarahluann.com/blog/dwysc
For simplicity's sake, these are just quick snapshots of the drawings taken with my phone, because scanning takes forever ;-).
